THE DAY DIOR HOMME DIED

With the departure of Hedi Slimane several seasons ago, Dior Homme fell into the world of declining economy and less room for the outlandishly fashionable.  Kris Van Assche took the brand in a different direction toward something slightly more homoerotic.  For high-end, fashion that usually is not a problem.  However, with Hedi the clothes were more true to the times and the undercurrents of youth.  Nowadays if a man wants minimal with a bit of street style he is more likely to buy Raf Simons collection or the work he is doing for Jil Sander. Dior seems more West Coast now.  Unfortunately, it cost more than when Hedi was designing the brand. Affordable separates drive business because people will make that reasonable investment.  I just don't see many people wanting to pull of the John Holmes hair-do with a laser-cut, long sleeve t-shirt.  Sorry Kris, Dior Homme should not be fun in the sun.  I am no longer a customer; rather, I'm a dinosaur who misses the days off Hedi Slimane and Helmut Lang. This marks the end of an era....
